 Biography

Joseph M. Gabris is an associate attorney in DeHay & Elliston’s Midwest Branch Office, based in the Chicago Loop, where he is a member of the branch’s trial team. Mr. Gabris’s practice primarily focuses on corporate defense, products and premises liability, and toxic tort litigation. He was selected to the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list for 2027. Since 2025, Mr. Gabris has also served on the Volunteer Attorney Panel for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Mr. Gabris earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and graduated magna cum laude with his Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law. He later earned his LL.M. in Environmental, Natural Resources, & Energy Law from Lewis & Clark Law School. During law school, Mr. Gabris served in several leadership roles, most notably as Editor-in-Chief of the school’s Law Review and as Associate Justice of the school’s Moot Court Society. His legal experience during law school included time with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Gabris worked as a chemical salesman and solar energy consultant.

Born and raised in Michigan, Mr. Gabris enjoys cooking, camping, traveling, and hiking in his free time.
