Anne Gritzer is a Partner in DeHay’s Walnut Creek, California office. She is an accomplished trial attorney and appellate counsel who has represented public entities, corporations, partnerships, and individuals defending a variety of statutory, personal injury and property damage claims, including catastrophic personal injury and death claims, toxic torts as well as environmental and construction defect claims. For thirty years, she has successfully defended premises owners, manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors in a variety of complex, multi-party disputes. Ms. Gritzer has resolved many matters informally as well as through mediation, arbitration, and taken several cases to favorable verdict as first chair trial attorney. Many cases involved complex medical issues involving children and adults, human factors and complex physical dynamics. Ms. Gritzer has successfully briefed and argued before the California Court of Appeals and presented complex federal public policy issues to the California Supreme Court.
After earning her J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law, in San Antonio, Ms. Gritzer served as the briefing attorney for the Honorable Sidney C. Farrar, Jr., Court of Appeals, Second District of Texas. During this appointment, Ms. Gritzer was a principal contributor to well over a dozen published opinions, one of which was cited by the Texas Bar Journal as a “paradigm” of summary judgment appellate review.
Prior to law school, Ms. Gritzer was employed with a national property/casualty insurance brokerage where she represented multi-state financial institutions, a multi-national petrochemical corporation, and municipalities in contract negotiations. She is a Charter Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).

Ms. Gritzer served on the Bexar County Child Welfare Board during 1983-1993 and was a Board Member for Youth Alternatives, Inc., a private non-profit which provided emergency treatment and long-term care for troubled youth, during 1982-1988. In 1981-1983, Ms. Gritzer advocated as a representative of the Junior League of San Antonio in collaboration with the League of Women Voters for reforms to the Bexar County Juvenile Justice program intended to bring stability to the program through the creation of a Juvenile Court, the appointment of an accomplished Chief Juvenile Probation Officer following a national search, the passage of a bond issue to construct a state-of-the-art juvenile detention center, the creation of a dedicated classroom and teacher through the San Antonio Unified School District and the placement of a faith based counselor at the facility. While chairperson of the Child Welfare Board in 1986-1987, Ms. Gritzer advocated for support from community groups and local elected officials to obtain needed resources to fund in-home services for abused and neglected children and provided testimony to the state legislature resulting in the allocation of much needed resources. She subsequently served on the Governor’s Advisory Board to the Texas Department of Human Services.
Ms. Gritzer served with the San Francisco Bar Association Volunteer Legal Services Program during 2001-2005, and the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) Grants Committee during 2017-2023. She also served as a board member of the Golden Gate Chapter of CPCU from 2016-2023.
